Kindness that keeps on giving
Every week, our volunteers across Aotearoa pop on their aprons, roll up their sleeves, stir love into their mixing bowls, and create and deliver boxes of home-baked treats for people having a tough time. It’s a simple act of kindness, but one that ripples outwards, turning a mouthful of yumminess into a moment of comfort and connection.
We invite you to think about another way to keep that kindness rippling out by leaving a bequest to GBB in your will.
A bequest (sometimes called a gift in will) is one of the most significant gifts a person can make. It doesn’t impact your day-to-day finances, but it does ensure that your kindness carries on.
Why bequests matter
We have grown from one kitchen in Wellington in 2014 to a nationwide movement with more than 3,500 volunteers in 32 chapters delivering tens of thousands of boxes of homemade treats every year. Each box offers something far more important than sugar or cheese: a reminder that someone cares.
Your legacy will allow us to continue giving moments of kindness, peace and support to thousands of Kiwis going through a tough time.
GBB boxes of cakes, slices, biscuits and scones aren’t just little treats. They’re proof no one is ever alone, even in their hardest times. They’re a taste of sweetness for a whānau waiting in hospice, reminders of the outside world for exhausted NICU parents, memories of home for older people living in aged care.
Bequests, no matter how large or small, help us make sure that our work will continue and can grow, so that anyone in Aotearoa who’s doing it tough has access to a little kindness from a stranger.
How you can help
Leaving a bequest is straightforward. Here are the steps:
-
Talk with your lawyer or trustee company (such as Public Trust or Perpetual Guardian) about including GBB in your will.
-
Decide the form of your gift – a specific sum or a percentage of your estate.
-
Update your will or add a codicil (a short legal amendment).
-
Let us know your wishes so we can acknowledge your gift in a way that feels right for you (you can, of course, remain anonymous).
A legacy of kindness
Leaving a bequest is a bit like passing a favourite recipe down through the generations. Big or small, your gift will help spread kindness and aroha across Aotearoa.
